This certification course prepares flooring professionals to properly evaluate, prepare, and repair subfloors and substrates ahead of resilient flooring installation. Developed from NAFCT's Subfloor Prep curriculum, it covers concrete curing and sealing compounds, surface contamination and cleaning, joints and cracks, adhesive residue testing, gypsum and self-leveling underlayment, wood and metal substrate preparation, and troubleshooting common installation failures. The course is organized into 8 modules, each followed by a short knowledge check, plus a comprehensive final exam. Learners who don't pass a knowledge check are guided back to that module for review before continuing, ensuring mastery of each topic before moving on. By the end of this course, learners will be able to: Identify and properly test for curing compounds, sealers, and other bond-breaking contaminants on concrete Select the appropriate mechanical preparation method (shot blasting, grinding, scarifying, or shaving) for a given job site condition Evaluate and prepare joints, cracks, and adhesive residue prior to installation Choose between trowel-grade and self-leveling underlayment based on job size and substrate condition Recognize common causes of subfloor repair failure and how to avoid them
